EDITORIAL METHOD V1.4

We score the workflow, not the sales page.

The same operating scenarios, plan-gating rules and evidence hierarchy are used across DetailerFit research.

Important: Current reviews are research-based using official vendor documentation. A product only receives a “hands-on tested” label after it is actually used through a published workflow.

Starting price vs usable-plan price

A product can start cheaply while reserving customer self-booking, team capacity, routing or automation for a higher tier. DetailerFit therefore distinguishes the vendor's headline starting price from the first plan that satisfies the stated use case.

How the Software Finder works

The Finder asks for exact team size, monthly job volume and monthly budget, then checks customer self-booking, device fit and workflow priorities. It calculates the first plan to inspect for each product using published plan gates and capacity limits.

  • Budget is now a hard ranking constraint: when at least one matching configuration fits the stated budget, an over-budget plan cannot become the top result merely because it scores well on features.
  • Unknown is neutral: “not sure” on customer self-booking no longer counts as “no.”
  • Exact capacity matters: QuoteIQ user limits, ServiceM8 job limits and overage charges, Mobile Tech RX per-user pricing and its custom-pricing threshold, Jobber configurations that are clearly supported by current official documentation, and Housecall Pro included/extra-user pricing are applied where publicly documented.
  • Official-source conflicts and unknowns are surfaced: if vendor pages disagree, we use a conservative interpretation and tell the reader to verify. For example, Jobber teams above five users are currently marked for verification because the vendor's pricing page and Help Center are not perfectly aligned. Mobile Tech RX is not treated as a confirmed native customer-self-booking match because the official sources reviewed did not clearly establish an equivalent customer-facing flow.

How the Cost Calculator works

The Cost Calculator starts with the user's team size, monthly job volume and must-have workflow. It then maps those requirements to the first published plan configuration that can satisfy them.

  • Flexible monthly pricing is the baseline: the main ranking uses the current published no-commitment or standard monthly price when available.
  • Annual billing is shown separately: a lower effective annual rate is not described as a lower-commitment option.
  • Published overages count: ServiceM8's additional-job charge above the Premium Plus allowance is included in the estimate.
  • Seat configuration counts: Jobber configurations are used only where the current official documentation is sufficiently clear; larger teams are marked for verification when official pages conflict. Housecall Pro included/extra-user pricing is reflected where publicly documented.
  • Unknown add-on prices are not guessed: when a required add-on or seat configuration has no clear public price, the total is marked incomplete rather than presented as a false exact number.

Evidence hierarchy

  1. Current official pricing and feature documentation.
  2. Current official help-center documentation.
  3. Public product demos and release notes.
  4. User discussions as qualitative context—not as verified product facts.
  5. Hands-on testing, when explicitly labeled.
