How to Handle “How Much?” Price Shoppers in Auto Detailing Without Wasting Time

Someone asking for a price is not automatically a bad lead. The problem is spending ten minutes building a custom quote before you know whether the customer and service are a fit.

Price shopping is normal

Detailing-community threads regularly describe leads who ask “how much,” receive a quote and disappear. That does not prove your pricing is wrong. Many customers are simply comparing providers. Build a process that makes qualification cheap for you and clear for them.

A faster qualification flow

  1. Publish a realistic baseline. A starting price or package range gives the buyer context before a custom quote.
  2. Ask only price-changing questions. Vehicle size, service type and major condition issues usually matter more than a long questionnaire.
  3. Use photos for high-variance jobs. Pet hair, heavy staining, paint correction and severe condition should not be priced like a normal maintenance job.
  4. Give the next step with the quote. “Here is the estimate” is weaker than “here is the estimate and the booking link.”
  5. Follow up once or twice, then stop. Shopping behavior is normal; endless chasing wastes time.

QuoteIQ for structured quoting

QuoteIQ is relevant when you want a repeatable estimate and approval flow rather than rebuilding every quote in text messages. The software cannot choose your pricing policy, but it can make the path from estimate to booking more consistent.

Do not hide every price behind “DM me”

For highly variable work, inspection still matters. But a baseline price helps a customer decide whether continuing the conversation makes sense. It also reduces time spent on leads whose budget and your service level are obviously far apart.

Community evidence

Community posts are anecdotal examples, not benchmarks for expected close rate. Price sensitivity varies by market, positioning, service scope and lead source.
